Freezing fun skating school

( 2–9-year-olds )

The Freezing fun skating school teaches how to move on the ice from the very basics, as the name suggests, in a fun and playful way. With the help of equipment, games and funny images, skating school creates a good foundation for the child in basic skating skills. With this they can start working on figure skating, ice hockey or even both sports. Star clubs (Tähtiseura) have joined forces to create a functional, versatile and, above all, fun skating school concept.

Freezing fun skating school is intended for all 2-9 years old children. Children coming to the skating school are not expected to have previous skating skills or experience. You can also register for the skating school in the middle of the season.

You come to the skating school to learn. No previous skating skills are required when starting. There are different skill levels within the skating school that fit for beginners.

Yes, you can. One trial is free of charge. There is no need to inform yourself in advance about coming to the trial session.

You can sign up for the skating school at any time, even during the season.

The most important thing is that the clothes are flexible and warm. While the clothes are warm, it should be easy and safe to move around in them. So, no hanging clothes or tight materials! For safety reasons please also note that there is nothing in the clothes that could fall onto the ice. In addition, every skating school student should have gloves! We recommend wearing a helmet.

You can come to the skating school with any safe skates (for example, those sold in sports stores), but if the hobby continues, it is important to have skates that support the ankle and are sharpened! Good skates prevent wrong positions and injuries and make it easier to learn something new.

In addition to sports stores, hockey skates and other equipment are sold by, for example, Hockey Unlimited and Hockey base.

Good quality figure skates are sold second-hand by the figure skating specialty stores Lucky Skate and Skate shop.

In addition to ice-skating costs and teaching, the price of the ice-skating school includes both clubs’ membership fees and an insured ice-skating school pass.

Autumn 2025 Season Plan

The goal of Freezing fun skating school is to teach children the basics of moving on ice in a versatile and thorough way. Through games and the use of equipment, children will, often without noticing it, learn the essential fundamentals of blade use that are important in all ice sports. At the same time, they practice working in a group as well as developing basic physical skills.

During the first lessons, children are divided into small groups based on their speed and any existing skills. Lessons are planned for each group according to the children’s skill level and pace, with the aim of also considering each child’s individual abilities.

Skating school sessions begin with a joint warm-up, after which children move to their small groups to continue practicing. The lessons include plenty of basic skating, as well as exercises for generating speed and using the blade. These are carried out in practice through various games, activities, obstacle courses, and equipment.
Each group has indicative skill goals, and the group’s lead instructor is responsible for tracking progress. The goal for the spring term is to get to know the group, the instructors, and the skating school’s routines, as well as to advance in the group’s specific skill goals. Above all, the main aim of the skating school is to have fun and experience the joy of skating!

During the spring, there will be various theme days, for some of which skating school participants may bring guests. A more detailed schedule for these special days can be found below this text. Skating school sessions are held every week unless otherwise announced. We will send reminders about upcoming special days and any changes during the season by email.

The autumn season will culminate in the skating school’s performance at EVT’s traditional Christmas show on December 10, 2025!
